GP accused of “pushing religion” on patient opts for full GMC hearing

A Christian GP who refused to accept a formal warning from the General Medical Council for speaking to a patient about Jesus is to take his case to a full hearing.

Richard Scott has opted for an oral hearing before the GMC’s investigation committee, which can confirm that a warning should be issued, conclude the case with no action, or, if new evidence emerges, refer the case to a fitness to practise panel, which has the power to strike a doctor off the medical register.

Dr Scott, who works at Bethesda Medical Centre in Margate, Kent, is a partner in a Christian practice.
