A mother is asking the Court of Protection in London to let her brain damaged daughter die, in a case described by the judge as “unique,” raising “very important issues of principle.”

At a preliminary hearing Mr Justice Baker said the issue of public importance was that the woman was said to be in a minimally conscious state rather than a persistent vegetative state, as in previous cases involving the withdrawal of artificial nutrition and hydration.
