Robert Nicol Traquair Thin (“Nicol”) was the scion of a distinguished Edinburgh medical family. He rowed for Scotland (coxed fours) in the Commonwealth Games in 1958. He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, specialising originally in chest medicine before changing to venereology while serving in Singapore.
