Foundation trust leader warns of hospital closures and job loss risk

Some hospitals might have to close and thousands of jobs might be lost while patient services suffer as a result of the financial pressure being put on foundation trusts, claims the head of the trusts’ main representative body.
Risk of failures have been raised in a confidential letter sent by Foundation Trust Network director Sue Slipman to NHS deputy chief executive David Flory, but which has been released accidentally by another party.
The network, which represents foundation trusts as part of the NHS Confederation, surveyed its 136 member organisations a month ago and responses showed that some were experiencing financial problems over expected efficiency savings.
