After Cholmeley House and Highgate and Exeter Schools, Angus Donald read electrical engineering at Aston College of Advanced Technology (now University) and then worked for GEC (General Electrical Company) for six years. A strong vocational call then led him to study medicine at Oxford, where he was a member of Keble College. He trained at the Radcliffe Infirmary and at Vellore, India, and then worked at the Radcliffe and Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital, Oxford, before continuing his career at the Royal London and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals.
