Cardiac imaging after heart attacks increases cancer risk: A Canadian cohort study of 82 861 patients has found that exposure to low-dose ionising radiation from cardiac imaging and therapeutic procedures after acute myocardial infarction is associated with an increased risk of cancer (CMAJ 2011, doi: 10.1503/cmaj.100463). Even moderate levels of exposure were associated with an increased risk of cancer.
