FDA tells US doctors to stop prescribing propoxyphene: The US Food and Drug Administration has asked doctors to stop prescribing the opioid propoxyphene, marketed as Darvon and Darvocet and in generic formulations. The drug was linked to a raised risk of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death. It was removed from the UK market in 2005 and the European Union in 2009.
