An Argentinian doctor who was convicted in 2009 of the manslaughter of a patient in Spain in 2005 has been working in the United Kingdom as a hospital doctor and police surgeon while the General Medical Council was unaware of the Spanish prosecution and conviction.

The GMC, which has now suspended Marcos Hourmann pending a full investigation, renewed its call for a mandatory requirement on European regulators to tell each other when action is taken against a doctor. Its Spanish equivalent had left …
