An Italian surgeon who removed a woman’s breast for the sole purpose of boosting his income has been sentenced to 15 years in jail by a court in Milan.
Pier Paolo Brega Massone, formerly the chief thoracic surgeon at the city’s Santa Rita clinic, was found guilty on Thursday 28 October of putting dozens of other patients under the knife needlessly at the institution, dubbed the “clinic of horrors” by the Italian press.
At least five patients died after bogus operations at the hands of the surgeon or his colleagues, prosecutors said. The court heard that more than 80 unnecessary operations, many on very sick and elderly patients, …
