The new European commissioner is making a major effort to introduce a smoking ban in enclosed public spaces in all member countries. In an interview with the German daily newspaper Die Welt (11 October 2010) health commissioner John Dalli announced that he would take much stronger action against smoking and introduce plans for new legislation in 2011.
