Scientists have called for a global surveillance network of antibiotic resistance as part of a package of measures to tackle the growing problem.

Delegates attending a three day conference at Uppsala University in Sweden also called for private and public sectors to work together to invest in research and development of new antibiotics and diagnostic tools.

The conference, The Global Need for Effective Antibiotics—Moving Towards Concerted Action, was attended by 190 delegates from 45 countries representing academia, industry, politics, and public health organisations.
