England’s Department of Health has launched the first in a series of consultations on how the proposals for the reorganisation of the NHS set out in the government’s health white paper will work in practice.
The white paper, launched on 12 July, said that an NHS Commissioning Board will be established in April 2012 to hold to account the GP consortiums that will take over the role of primary care trusts in commissioning care for patients (BMJ 2010;341:c3796, 17 Jul, doi:10.1136/bmj.c3796).
