Birth complication rates vary widely in US: The best performing hospitals in the 19 states that make maternity information available had 51% fewer complications among women who had vaginal births and 74% fewer complications in caesarean section deliveries than in the poorest performing hospitals. Top hospitals had the highest number of deliveries and the highest rates of episiotomy and vacuum assisted delivery but the lowest of forceps assisted delivery, shows the survey by HealthGrades (www.healthgrades.com).
