More funds and a strong dose of political will are needed to keep advancing the millennium development goals, especially some health related goals such as improving maternal health, which is falling short of its target, advocates and experts say.
Although they lauded the progress made in the past three to four years in combating malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS, and in lowering childhood mortality rates and fighting hunger, they cautioned that the gains are fragile. If efforts by donors and recipient governments are not sustained the gains could collapse.
