Mother who helped her seriously ill daughter to die is cleared of murder

A mother who administered a cocktail of drugs to her daughter whose own attempt at suicide had failed was cleared of attempted murder on 28 January.

Mr Justice Bean, the judge in the trial, praised the common sense, decency, and humanity of the jury at Lewes crown court, who took two hours to find Kay Gilderdale not guilty of attempting to murder her 31 year old daughter Lynn.

Kay Gilderdale had looked after her daughter 24 hours a day after she became severely disabled with myalgic encephalomyelitis.

In the early hours of 3 December 2008 Lynn injected herself with an overdose of morphine, but when she realised this was not enough she asked her mother for help.
