Robin McNab Jones moved to Manchester as a child and was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Dulwich College. He graduated from Barts in 1945 and served in the Royal Air Force until 1950, when he married his wife, Mary. He entered his chosen specialty in 1952, completing his training in London, following which he moved to Manchester as a senior lecturer in 1959, returning to Barts as a consultant in 1961. He retired in 1987.
