Lawrence Brimacombe (renamed “Larry” at university) often referred to himself as “Lucky Brim.” After two years in India with the Royal Air Force, he was offered a government grant enabling him to study medicine, which had hitherto been financially impossible. He considered it an enormous privilege to be a doctor.
