In the United States in 2008 almost one third of adolescents aged 12 to 17 (8 million) drank alcohol, around one fifth (5 million) used an illicit drug, and almost one sixth (4 million) smoked a cigarette, show new data. In the same year, 7.5% of all people admitted to publicly funded treatment facilities were aged 12 to 17 years.
