Temporary CMO is appointed for England: Sally Davies will act as chief medical officer for England after Liam Donaldson steps down on 31 May. A substantive appointment to the role will be made after an open competition in the summer, the Department of Health has said. Dame Sally remains director general of research and development and chief scientific adviser for the Department of Health and NHS.
