    Richard John West was awarded a scholarship to the Middlesex Hospital and trained as a paediatrician at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children, Carshalton, and at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He worked closely with the late Professor June Lloyd on lipid disorders, and his MD thesis was on familial hypercholesterolaemia and its treatment.
