Implementing health reform in the US is going to require huge change, briefing told

    Implementing the new US health reform bill will be as difficult as getting it through Congress, a policy specialist told a large briefing for congressional staff in Washington, DC, on 30 April.

    Scott Keefer, from the Center for Policy and Research at the trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans, said that reform was an “opportunity to transform or simplify administrative structures.”

    Even before the reform bill was passed the insurance industry was working with hospital and doctors’ groups in Ohio and New Jersey to create pilot programmes for a unified payment system, with standardised forms for claims and disability information.
