    Charles Humphrey Jules Rey was educated at Harrow School and Guy’s Hospital. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps on qualifying, being posted to Burma in 1942 and attaining the rank of major. He suffered malaria and dysentery while continuing to run his unit.
