Most hospital doctors in England will have their pay frozen in the coming financial year in an attempt to save £3bn (€3.3bn; $4.5bn) on the public sector pay bill by 2013-14.
The BMA has slammed the decision by the prime minister, Gordon Brown. Hamish Meldrum, chairman of the BMA council, voiced particular concern over the government’s decision to overrule some of the recommendations made by the independent pay review body.
