Doctors’ representatives have called for an overhaul of the way hospitals are paid for treating patients so that it better reflects the integrated care pathways being advocated by the NHS.
In its pre-election manifesto the Royal College of Physicians calls for reforming the current payment by results system, which sets national tariffs for different procedures and hospital stays and reimburses hospitals for the precise activity that they do.
