A new online database giving a detailed picture of health indicators in the United States down to the county level was unveiled in Washington, DC, on 17 February.
The researchers used five broad measures of health outcomes to rank each of the 3141 counties within its own state: premature mortality (years of potential life lost before the age of 75); the percentage of people who reported being in fair or poor health; the number of days people reported being in poor physical health; the number of days people reported being in poor mental health; and the percentage of low birthweight infants. …
