Further process targets will be rolled out if Labour wins the forthcoming general election, health secretary Andy Burnham has promised. This marks a clear difference from the Conservatives, who have pledged to phase them out.
Speaking at the health policy think tank the King’s Fund the day after Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced a 6 May general election, Mr Burnham said that removal of national standards takes power away from patients and returns it to the system.
