    Alan Maynard was at school in Forest Gate and was evacuated to Chesham. In the Royal Air Force he was promoted to squadron leader, but he declined a service career and settled in general practice in Plaistow in 1959, for over 40 years living over the surgery, at first in Prince Regent Lane adjacent to the new Newham University Hospital. He developed a training practice in one of the most deprived parts of East London and was loved and respected by his patients. He became interested in …
