Artemisinin resistant malaria spreads: Resistance of malaria parasites to artemisinin based drugs is spreading in South East Asia, the Malaria Consortium says. Reports of resistance have been confirmed in Thailand and Cambodia, and resistance may be occurring in Myanmar (Burma), China, and Vietnam, it says. It warns that increasing resistance may be due to inadequate access to artemisinin combination treatments and calls for efforts to halt the further spread of resistance.
