A new strategy endorsed by the World Health Organization calls on countries to strive for universal access to health care. The health financing strategy for the Asia Pacific region (2010-15) was unveiled at the 60th session of WHO’s regional committee for the Western Pacific, held from 21 to 25 September in Hong Kong.
“If health systems do not provide adequate financial protection, large numbers of households can be pushed into poverty by ill health and by paying out of pocket for health care,” said Shin Young-soo, WHO’s director for the Western Pacific region.
