Exhausted staff, lack of leadership, and an increasingly complex case mix are jeopardising the safety of maternity patients, claims a new report from the health think tank the King’s Fund.
Its report is the result of a series of regional meetings held across England of obstetricians, midwives, and risk managers, who have echoed concerns raised in a previous King’s Fund report, Safe Birth: Everybody’s Business, and a 2007 survey by the healthcare services watchdog, the Healthcare Commission, now the Care Quality Commission.
