Following qualification in Bristol, house jobs, and marriage to Janet in 1961, John Noel Sebire spent two years in Sarenga, northern India, with the Methodist Missionary Society getting “far too much experience for his level of training.” In 1964 he began work as a general practitioner in Rainham, Kent, where he served a generation as their family doctor. He retired prematurely with Parkinson’s disease in 1991.

John subsequently moved with Janet to Hythe, Kent, where he was able to enjoy some passions—sea fishing, walks, and golf—before he became too immobile. The move didn’t stop him returning to his football team, Gillingham Football Club, for occasional matches.

His family and friends will miss his smile and eternal optimism despite such profound disability.

He leaves his wife, Janet; three children; and eight grandchildren.
