Cell free fetal DNA (cffDNA)has revolutionized the prenatal diagnosis as it is easy, early and non-invasive prenatal diagnosis of aneuploidies (e.g. Down's Syndrome), single gene-inherited disorders, Rh blood group genotyping of the fetus with Rh negative mother and Rh positive father. But alongwith the above-mentioned tests, it also determines the sex of the baby. Since gender discrimination in India which is unfavourable for female gender and where prenatal diagnosis of sex is banned, this test can not be carried out widely. In such a situation only a few labs should be accredited and allowed to carry-out these tests with warning of penalizing those which would attempt to do for sex determination.
