Recession takes toll on grants from medical research charities

    A quarter of the United Kingdom’s medical research charities have already cut grants as a direct result of the recession, a new survey carried out by the Association of Medical Research Charities has shown.

    Of the 59 of the total of 63 charities that responded to the question about funding levels, just over half (30) respondents said that they were maintaining their spending on research for the current financial year, but one in four (15) admitted they were cutting their spending on grants by between 10% and 40%.
