    Looking back, you’ll wonder why on earth we did it. Friendship wrist bands? Strictly Come Dancing? Buying your children a flat? That second home? Ugg boots, and of course long hair on men? Similarly, looking back through the annals of medicine you flinch: tonsillectomy, danazol, all foot surgery, diazepam, and of course bisphosphonates. The difference between the two groups (with the exception of Strictly Come Dancing) is that in medicine such mistakes can do enormous harm that is often only revealed in time. …
