Kenneth Mills Tomlinson (“Pip”) was born in 1915, son of artist RR Tomlinson. Undiagnosed and debilitating renal colic in his youth led to nephrectomy at St Thomas’s Hospital. In 1936 he became a student at their anatomy school, and in 1938 he organised and produced the hospital Christmas show.
