Trachoma is highly prevalent in parts of Sudan: An area of southern Sudan has the most severe rates of trachoma “ever documented,” says research published in PLoS Neglected Diseases (doi:10.1371/journal.pntd.0000299). A survey in Ayod county found signs of trachoma in nearly every household. One person in every three households had severe blindness from the condition. Lack of clean water and sanitation are blamed for the high prevalence.
