In this News article by Rebecca Coombes (BMJ 2008;336:1332-3, 14 Jun, doi:10.1136/bmj.39608.391030.DB) we did not make clear that neither Roger Short nor Joyce Leong are obstetricians, as readers might have assumed from the title and the text. Short is professorial fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Leong was a final year medical student at the University of Melbourne when she went to Thailand to study vacuum aspiration abortion and when she wrote the paper; she has since qualified as a doctor and is doing her internship in Australia.
