After junior posts at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and national service in the Royal Army Medical Corps as medical officer in the UK and in Germany, Allan Watson Downie returned to Aberdeen, where he worked in its new neurosurgical unit and with one of the physicians (Dr T Morgan) who had a special interest in neurology.
