Shanmuga Bhaskar, Bhaskie as he was known to friends and colleagues, was a pioneering transplant surgeon. After qualifying, he initially trained as a surgeon under Professor Rangabashyam in Madras (Chennai). He came to the United Kingdom in 1986 and gained his FRCS from Edinburgh in 1988.
