Robert Nash

Robert Nash (“Bobby”) served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the south of England during and after D Day. He was subsequently posted to Burma. After demobilisation in 1947 he worked as a general practitioner in Natal, South Africa. In 1950 he came back to the United Kingdom to obtain the DCH and then returned to general practice in Natal. He was a family doctor to a rural community and had a special interest in obstetrics and paediatrics. He supervised innumerable home deliveries. He was the school doctor to Michaelhouse School for many years. He retired at 75, having spent the past 15 years serving the Zulu community in Kwa Zulu, interspersing this practice with visits to Sutherland, where he had spent the best years of his childhood. He leaves three sons (one a consultant surgeon), seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
