Abortions decline in US: The number of abortions in the United States fell to 1.2 million in 2005, the lowest since 1976; 22.4% of pregnancies were aborted compared with 30.4% in 1983. The reason may be more use of contraception, but 87% of counties—where 35% of women aged 15 to 44 live—lack an abortion provider (www.guttmacher.org).
