The dean of a top US medical school says that he was fired in retaliation for questions he raised about financial “irregularities” at the school.
David Kessler, dean of the University of California in San Francisco Medical School, was fired on 13 December. It follows a long battle between him and the school about its finances.
Dr Kessler told the BMJ that he requested the school’s financial records while he was being recruited to the school in the summer of 2003. The school gave him a spreadsheet, which he forwarded to the BMJ along with other documents …
