Medicare won't cover hospital errors: Rules published on 22 August implemented a 2006 Congressional directive to block Medicare from paying the extra costs of treating preventable errors, injuries, and infections that occur in hospitals. Health insurers are likely to follow. The Bush administration expects that the policy will save Medicare $20m (£10m; $15m) a year.
