Concerted action is needed to develop a strategy on global health issues that protects the health of the UK while contributing to improving health in the rest of the world, recommends a report published last week by England's chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson.
The report, Health Is Global: Proposals for a UK Government-wide Strategy, argues that the UK needs to engage in the health of other countries so it can protect the wellbeing of its own residents while contributing to health for others.
