Albert C Scott (“Bertie”) did his medical training in Queen's University, Belfast and then set out in the 1960s, to specialise in physiology, gaining an MD for his research. However, preferring clinical practice to teaching and research, he returned to studying and started his anaesthetic training in Edinburgh at the Royal Infirmary Hospital, before returning to Northern Ireland to complete it.
