Joan Godfrey worked as a single handed general practitioner in Felbridge, Sussex, from 1950 to 1969. She then worked in the Kitzbuhel Hospital in Austria, returning with her family to the United Kingdom in 1972 as medical officer of health for Lochaber. She retired in 1984 owing to her husband's illness, but she continued her regular attendance at the Lochaber Medical Society and was active locally through her interest in gardening and music. She leaves two children and two grandchildren.
Former general practitioner and medical officer of health for Lochaber (b 1923; q Edinburgh 1949; FRCP, FRCH, MRCGP), died from a postoperative heart attack on 23 September 2006.
