    EDITOR—More “sophisticated” tests can be included in Galloway and Smellie's proposed guidelines on iron status in microcytic anaemia.1 Ferritin seems a weak compromise compared with the yield from diagnostic algorithms using soluble transferrin receptors or zincprotoporphyrin.23
