Women who took the drug diethylstilbestrol during pregnancy have an increased risk of death from breast cancer (British Journal of Cancer 2006;95:107-11).
Results from the largest study to date of mortality outcomes in women who were exposed to the drug also show increased mortality from all causes. Diethylstilbestrol is a powerful non-steroidal oestrogen that was used to prevent pregnancy loss and complications for almost 30 years.
