A hard hitting report from the UK House of Commons' Science and Technology Committee claims that the use of new high powered magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners could be threatened by new European Union legislation.
The committee maintains that both the European Commission and the UK government had failed to consult sufficiently with the medical community and manufacturers when the EU electromagnetic fields directive, which comes into force in April 2008, was unanimously adopted by governments two years ago.
