UK government consults on health research funding

    The UK government is exploring how best to administer a new single, ring fenced fund for health research, through a public consultation launched last week

    The review will advise on the best design and institutional arrangements for the new funding system, which was announced in last month's budget. The new arrangement proposes merging the previously separate funding of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the NHS research and development programme (BMJ 2006;332:994, 29 Apr). Comments are invited from all those involved in health research in the United Kingdom.
